Dundrum

Dundrum derives its name from Dun Droma meaning Fort of the Ridge.

It is a picturesque village surrounded by woodland. Rasheen Wood lies to the North and to the East flows the Multeen River. The above images show; first left the old RIC Barracks later used as the Garda Station, middle image shows the Church of Ireland, a building with buttressed walls and a working gargoyle used for roof drainage, top right image shows Dundrum Railway Station (now privately owned). The Maude family were responsible for bringing the Great Southern and Western Railway through Dundrum.

Killenure Castle is located on private grounds at Knockavilla Dundrum. A 17th C castle, it is reputed to have been the last stronghold of the O'Dwyer clan. It was destroyed by Cromwell.
Dundrum House Hotel was once the residence of the Maude/Hawarden family.

Dundrum has many woodland walks that are rich in flora and fauna.
