Loughmore, Templemore, Co. Tipperary
In the picturesque village of Loughmore stands the extensive remains of Loughmoe Court the home of the Purcells. Loughmoe Court gave his title to Nicholas Purcell Barron of Loughmoe who was one of the Jacobite signatories of the Treaty of Limerick 1691. The South end is the tower of a 15th C castle and the remainder is 17th C. There are several fireplaces remaining in the building as well as the remains of the bawn. Nearby are the ruins of a church with Purcell monuments. The castle ( Loughmoe Court ) is on private land and one must have the permission of the landowner to enter.
To the right of the key stone in the fireplace above are carved the initials F.P.
Extensive restoration of the village is taking place, above the reconstruction of the village pump.
